Random Memory of the Day:

When I was a kid, my dad would drag me to random classical concerts, hoping for me to gain some culture, or better, to inspire me to become a world-class classical musician myself. What I can best describe my dad’s behavior as during these concerts is that parallel to a groupie. We would always stay after the shows to meet the soloists, and I got to meet some pretty great musicians over the years like Itzhak Perlman and Anne-Sophie Mutter. However, there was one encounter that I found extremely amusing upon remembering it a few years after it occurred. We went to a New York Philharmonic concert featuring Igor Oistrakh, the son of David Oistrakh, who is considered one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century. As usual, we stayed after the show so my dad could collect another autograph. As we approached Igor, my dad decided that the best thing he could possibly say to the guy was, “I’m a huge fan of your father’s work.”
